A chat with Creative Director Nardia Robertson on the Winter 23 Collection

A chat with Creative Director Nardia Robertson on the Winter 23 Collection

The Caravan & Co Fall Winter 2023 Collection continues to develop our signature silhouettes in luxurious fabrics, with new exclusive prints with a stronger geometric feel. The addition of knitwear will bring a new option to our looks, perfectly pairing with jeans, or layered over one of our FW23 pieces.

What is your process when it comes to design?

At Caravan & Co, our aim is to build collections that celebrate femininity, luxurious fibres, and timeless details. Our design process always starts with a theme and then builds on it through fabric, print, colour and silhouette, to create a cohesive and unique collection each season.

I have been so lucky to have had the opportunity to travel over the years and experience a wide range of cultures and traditional techniques, seeing some of the world's best textile products. I find these lived experiences, tied in with my love for (and ever-growing collection of) antique and vintage design, fuelling my creative design process.

What were your points of inspiration behind this collection?

Winter is all about layering, I wanted to create a collection of separates in luxurious natural fibres including silk, cashmere, wool & textured elements like rich velvet that work together.  The colour palette incorporates classic muted tones and "highlight", colours that blend with each other and, of course, tie in with the luxurious finish of our Hollstar Accessories

To reflect the shift into the autumnal and wintery seasons, the colour palette includes rich jewel-toned blue and caramel hues in both solid and prints, worked back with ivory, navy and black. I always include classic colours and incorporate them into tonal prints to create a point of difference in the range. Stronger geometric prints were included this season to contrast alongside the solid suiting in the collection.

Ever influenced by luxury and a feminine silhouette, soft tailoring in satin and textured velvet are new elements to the range that I am very excited about. The idea of throwing an oversized knit over the Satin Eddy pant or denim jeans(to bring that casual feel) led to the introduction of our cashmere/wool blend oversized Charlie Sweater in striking monochrome colours and a contrast stripe.

What are your stand-out pieces, the ones you will be wearing, again and again, this winter?

Jackets are my go-to for Winter and this season I will be wearing the Eddy velvet suiting and the Theodore Military Jacket in Khaki Wool. During my working week, I choose a very casual wardrobe and will be looking for comfortable and wearable items like the soft suiting with the oversized Charlie Sweater. The Bromley silk satin shirting is always a classic something I will keep forever wearing again and again.

Can you give us a hint of what we have to look forward to in the future of Caravan & Co?

Coming out of 2 years of stay-at-home comfort dressing, we are now wanting to dress up and begin enjoying elevated dressier outfits. Silk will continue to be a staple in the Caravan & Co collections as many customers are looking for really special pieces like the Adeline Silk Dress. I'm looking forward to mixing it up the Charlie Sweater worked back with the Eddy Satin Pant for a truly versatile luxe wardrobe offering. Leather will become a bigger part of the Caravan & Co collection going forward as we move towards wearable staples in the collection.
